Emergency Department  Performance

A new Health Target focused on emergency departments came into effect on 1 July 2009. The target is called Shorter Stays in Emergency Departments, and is defined as ‘95 percent of patients will be admitted, discharged or transferred from an Emergency Department within six hours’

The Emergency Department at Auckland Hospital has initiated a number of projects alongside other Hospital projects aimed at achieving this target. These have produced significant improvements in  patient flow and the most recent data suggest that we are likely to achieve the target in the second quarter of 2011.
