We would like to help with protocol design, ethics
application and practical issues around designing a research project in the
ED, including Emergency Registrar 4:10 and Post Graduate student research
projects.
However, we have limited resources in terms of clinical
staff time and funding to support research. We believe it is unethical to
undertake projects that are not scientifically robust or compromised by (or
unlikely to be completed due to) resource constraints.
Therefore we require that all
research projects involving ED patients, staff or physical resources are
approved by the Emergency Medicine Research group. If you are interested in
doing a research project in the Adult ED, please contact: Peter Jones (peterj@adhb.govt.nz). We meet monthly to discuss proposals and will endeavour
to reply as soon as possible.
Current Research Themes
We have recently won a major HRC
grant to study the Effect of the ‘Shorter Stays in Emergency Departments’
time target on clinical markers of quality of care. This is nationwide
research and the grant is worth $1.1 million over 3 years (October 1010-
September 2013). With this grant we will be employing a full time data
manager and research Fellow to join our research team. We are working
closely with a team of academics at the School of Population Health at
Auckland University on this project, which is one of the first Emergency
Department research projects to receive HRC funding in NZ and one of the
largest ever received by ADHB. We are also actively recruiting patients in
an international multicentre RCT for the management of severe sepsis.
